The Mandala Effect

Mandalas have been drawn in sand, painted on temple ceilings, and stitched into cloth for thousands of years. The word means "circle" in Sanskrit, but the meaning runs deeper than shape. In Buddhist and Hindu traditions a mandala maps the universe from the center outward, a reminder that everything radiates from one still point. Tibetan monks spend weeks pouring coloured sand into impossibly fine patterns, then sweep it away in minutes. The impermanence is the lesson.

Carl Jung came to them from a different direction. He noticed patients drawing circles when they were putting themselves back together, and started drawing one himself every morning. Whatever you believe about the psychology, the feeling is real: making a mandala slows you down. One line becomes six, six become a whole world, and twenty minutes disappear.

That is exactly why they belong on a stamp. A mandala is symmetry, which means it prints beautifully. It reads as a single confident mark on a plain card, and repeats into borders, corners and full backgrounds when you want more. Ink it in one colour for something quiet, or layer two or three for depth. It never looks accidental.
